VAFO, one of Europe’s leading pet food manufacturers, recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. Hundreds of guests from 57 countries across 5 continents gathered at the neo-renaissance Žofín Palace in central Prague to mark this major milestone. Since its inception in Chrášťany near Prague in 1994, VAFO has established itself as an icon of premium and superpremium pet food and has steadily carved a path of success to some very impressive numbers – in 2023, for instance, the group posted turnover of approximately 495 million EUR, an astounding 20% increase from the previous year – underscoring its market leadership and global customer loyalty.
A journey of growth and expansion
VAFO’s story began in 1994 in Chrášťany, and by the following year, the company was producing one thousand tons of pet food annually under the brands Asta, Astor, Astík, and Mourek. A decade later, VAFO was exporting products to some 17 countries around the world. Over the past 30 years, VAFO has significantly expanded globally and is now synonymous with top-tier pet foods. Strategic acquisitions in Germany, Poland, Estonia, Finland, and the United Kingdom have further extended the company’s reach. In 2017, VAFO undertook its first major expansion with a stake in the German company Allco Tiernahrung, completing the acquisition this year by purchasing the remaining shares. VAFO Group plans to continue developing its presence across Europe and other continents. Today, the company operates nine factories in seven European countries, producing over 220,000 tons of pet food annually under its own brands and private labels.
A global market leader
Over the last three decades, VAFO has become a hallmark of quality and care for pets, with more than 12 brands available in over 90 countries worldwide, including popular brands like Brit and Carnilove. VAFO boasts an expansive portfolio of products featuring all the most popular pet food formats. With more than 1,000 employees, the company continues to build its position as a trusted industry leader. Currently it ranks among the Top 10 European pet food producers and the Top 20 global players in pet food.

The 30th anniversary was celebrated on Thursday, July 25, at Prague’s Žofín Palace on Slovanský Island. Hundreds guests from 57 countries came together to celebrate this significant milestone in the company’s history.
